East of the Mississippi

You may be wondering what this has to do with renovating the house. Absolutely nothing. But, what it does signify is that I have completed a marathon in every state east of the Mississippi. Last weekend I traveled across the country to Burlington, VT to run in my 45th marathon. I arrived in Vermont early Friday morning, ran in the race on Sunday and flew home Sunday afternoon. I apologize for not posting last week but I was a little tired from running and flying home in the same day.

This was my first race in Vermont and also the first time a race has been delayed due to rain. I left the hotel and enroute to the start line learned the race director ordered everyone to leave the starting area and seek shelter in a parking garage about three blocks away. In his defense, it did rain for about five minutes. It took awhile to get the runners back to the start line and the gun went off about 45 minutes after it was supposed to.

I didn't have much time to get back to the hotel, shower, pack, eat the traditional post race cheeseburger, stop at Ben & Jerry's for ice cream, and drive to the airport. Sure could have used the 45 minutes I lost earlier in the day. All went well and arrived in Spokane with Garrett's popcorn from the O'Hare airport. If you ever visit Chicago you have to get Garrett's popcorn. It's kind of like having to get a Philly cheesesteak when you go to Philadelphia.

The HVAC contractor is coming on Wednesday to install the gas furnace for the basement and the tankless hot water heater. In preparation of his work, I painted the existing walls in the furnace room. After purusing about 25 paint samples Trish and I decided to go with Lazy Gray for the walls and Extra White for the trim.

The plumber is scheduled to come back on Friday. If everything goes according to plan I should be ready to call for my inspections the following week.
